Think Sesame Street meets Ted Lasso. Footy and Friends aims to educate and entertain through the game of soccer. With the help of puppets and some famous friends, we will positively influence children 5-8 years old at the beginning of their soccer journeys.

Synopsis

In each episode, Heather, Footy, and the Friends United Team will use the lessons they learn on the pitch and apply them to real life obstacles that arise off the pitch.

In the opening segment, Heather and Footy host “The Kick Off Show” where they chat about current events around the club, team dynamics, and tactics, leading to The Theme of the Day. Then, special guests that will be featured in the episode will be introduces. The two pals will then lace up their boots and take on the field for a segment On the Pitch. On the field, Heather and Footy check in on team training, learn a new skill, or interview team members, followed by the Coaches’ Corner. There, they will sit and chat with guest stars and discuss ways that The Theme of the Day can be helpful in football and in life. The episodes will often end with another segment from the studio desk to tie everything together and say see you next time.

Meet the Team

Heather O’Reilly

Olympic and World Cup Champion. Heather is Footy’s co-host throughout the show. She uses her own experiences, love for education, and coaching skills to teach viewers technical skills and life lessons.

Wanna be professional soccer player. As a silly, and often clumsy TV person for The Kick Off Show, footy finds joy in many things, but none more so than his team.

Episode concepts

  • It's preseason and the Friends United roster has just been named. Right as the side is struggling with team chemistry issues, a surprise problem in the kitchen leads the team to realize that their differences can actually be their strengths.

  • Abby is struggling with a new skill and it is frustrating her. She is thinking about giving up and quitting. Abby has a dream in which an inventor from history gave up and never provided the world with their special gift.

  • The team is introduced to the idea of winning and losing as their first game approaches. Carlos takes the losses very hard and is upset for days. Abby doesn't even finish the game because she is being a bad sport! Coach reminds them that if you try, you are never really losing.
